GSAS Coaching Scholarships

Part of the academy’s strategy to develop our region’s high performing athletes is to provide support to established coaches in the region. GSAS is opening scholarships for Great Southern sporting coaches to receive funding for higher coaching education to help energise sport in the Great Southern and support junior athlete development. Coaches will also receive 12 months of access to any webinars our open workshops that we have in the region.

Criteria for Coaching Scholarships:

Reside in the Great Southern Region;
Must be currently coaching (volunteer or paid) at least 4 hours per week (in season);
Must be an established coach, with at least a level 1 coaching qualification or equivalent, and be aspiring to coach at the highest level;
Be verified by local RDO’s or SSA’s as a current local coach of Junior athletes; and
Be able to provide receipts of purchase which will then be used for reimbursement.

The amount of renumeration provided for the course will vary with each applicant, and may be partial or full. The amount granted will be based on the impact that the individual is currently having on sport in the region, current number of hours coaching, direct impact on GSAS athletes and their potential to continue to develop our high performing athletes in years to come.

The Academy will accept applications for recently completed courses, from the beginning of this financial year (from July 1st 2024) as long as the applicant can provide receipt of purchase.

In return for contributing for your coaching qualification, The Great Southern Academy of Sport would like to see you continue to contribute to the development of talented athletes in our region. We might also call on you to collaborate with us on workshops or individual development plans for GSAS athletes in your sport. We would expect you to positively promote the academy and to encourage talented athletes in your sport to engage with our programs and scholarships.
