Introducing the Great Southern Academy of Sport: Elevating Athletic Excellence in the Great Southern

Albany, Fri Oct 6th marks a significant milestone in the sporting landscape of our region as we proudly announce the opening date of athlete applications to the inaugural sports academy in the Great Southern region. The academy will be the premier sports institute dedicated to the nurturing of talented junior athletes.

Applications will open at 12 noon on Monday 16th October and close at 5pm on Monday 30th October. Applications can only be made online via our website : www.gsaswa.org.au

As we embark on this journey, we are excited to unveil a dynamic program that will not only foster and develop the careers of our scholarship holders but have a ripple effect throughout our community as our athletes exemplify the values of discipline, teamwork and resilience, inspire others and become our leaders of tomorrow.

Key features of the Academy include:

Holistic support: The Academy provides an exceptional training environment to support athletes by providing supervision by sports doctors, customised strength & conditioning programs, dedicated gym access, sports nutrition advice, sports psychology, mentoring and access to high performance workshops and education.

Elite service providers: Our team of service providers is the very best in the region, highly qualified and experienced in elite sport and high performance.

Dedicated board: The Academy is governed by a group of highly committed volunteers passionate about sports and the development of sport in our region. The board includes ex-Olympians and high performers in sport and sports administration.

Support for coaches: The Academy is committed to developing the quality and quantity of high performance coaches in the region. Coaching performance is integral to sports performance.

Sports Science and Wellness: We prioritise the health and well-being of our athletes. The Academy incorporates sports science and wellness programs, including nutrition guidance, injury prevention and mental conditioning, to maximise the performance and longevity in sport.

Community engagement: The Academy is deeply rooted in the community. We will actively engage with local schools, sports clubs and organisations to promote sports at grassroots level and build a strong sporting culture in our region

Inclusive: Scholarships are available to athletes and coaches in any sport including disabled and impaired competition

Rob Perisic, GSAS - Executive Officer, expressed great excitement about the opening of applications, saying: β€œThe opening of applications is the culmination of the efforts of many people over the last 12 months and we are thrilled about finally bringing a dedicated sports Academy to the region. Our vision is to become a beacon of excellence in sports development and have Great Southern athletes and coaches reach the pinnacle of their chosen sports and represent all of us on the national and global stage.”
